DENR, partners to hold Spatial Management & Visioning Workshop for Lake Mainit Key Biodiversity Area


BUTUAN CITY, Dec. 3 (PIA) – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Protected Areas Wildlife and Coastal Zone Management Sector (DENR-PAWCZMS) through the Biodiversity Partnerships Project (BPP) in partnership with Lake Mainit Development Alliance will be holding the Spatial Management and Visioning Workshop for Lake Mainit Key Biodiversity Area on December 9-11, 2013 at the Gazeebo Pools and Restaurant, Cabadbaran City.

???????????????????????????????“The three-day activity is aimed to finalize the vision, mission and goal of the Lake Mainit Plan Transboundary; to come up with the alternative land and water use management options; to select preferred land and water use management options; and to formulate spatial and land-water use policy,” said DENR-Caraga OIC Regional Executive Director Nonito Tamayo.

Lake Mainit is the fourth largest lake in the country. It has a total area of about 17,060 hectares and its lakeshore has total length of 62.10 kilometers. The lake is divided almost equally between the provinces of Agusan and Surigao del Norte. It is most known for its rich fish resources. There are 31 barangays in the municipalities of Mainit, Alegria, Kitcharao and Jabonga. (JPG/PIA-Caraga)
